Sun Peaks Canada is an international resort that is open for business all year round. It is located just north of Kamloops. It is on the Thompson Plateau and known for the beautiful weather with almost 2,000 hours of sunshine every year. It is centrally located, being only a little over four hours from Vancouver and about five and a half hours from Seattle, Washington. It is serviced by two airports, one in Kamloops and one in Kelowna, with international service.

Sun Peaks Summer Fun

In the summer, Sun Peaks village is simple to get around by foot, with a great selection of boutique shops (check out Jardines!) and restaurants. You can use the Valley Trail to get anywhere in the village that you desire. There are also bike trails that lead in and out of the village to the mountain. Sun Peaks Canada is a little slower in the summer than in the winter but I think it’s my favorite time of year up there. It’s definitely worth a special trip for the blossom festival in the spring to see the wild flowers in bloom.

Kids in the Summer

If you are visiting Sun Peaks Resort as a family, your kids will have a blast. Kids Mountain Adventure Camps offers horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, canoeing and many other outdoor adventure activities.

The Sports Centre has an outdoor swimming pool with a kiddie pool, hot tub, tennis courts and a basketball court. For those that love biking, there is the Bike Park which has cross country trails that are family friendly.

When the adults want some time to explore alone, there is the Three Bears Daycare right in the village that offers care and activities for children over two and a half years old.

Summer Festivals

Sun Peaks also offers plenty of fun festivals and special activities throughout the summer. There is the Canada Day celebration held at the end of June / early July that features a running race, the opening of the Sunburst Express Chairlift, a kids carnival and a farmer's market.

From mid-July to mid-August the alpine blossoms make for a stunning view along the trails and is the most popular time for people to explore the trails on foot or by bike.

The beginning of August brings the BC Family Day Celebration which converts the whole village into a fun zone with a climbing wall, petting zoo, cookie decorating, farmer's market clowns and story tellers.

Sun Peaks Winter Fun

If you are visiting Sun Peaks Resort in the winter then you will have an equally exciting time. Sun Peaks ski events are the most popular this time of year. The resort is well known for the easy to ski powder snow that falls in British Columbia. The snow here is also very reliable, so you can expect good skiing weather all winter.

Skiing

When you want to enjoy skiing at Sun Peaks you get over 3,500 acres of land with over 800 meters of vertical and over 100 runs with 12 glade areas. It is one of the largest ski resorts in all of Canada. The terrain varies from alpine bowls, cruising runs and steep hills. Getting to the ski areas is no problem - from the village you can get to the chairlifts easily. Check out Sun Peaks Skiing for more details.

Kids Winter Fun

Sun Peaks Canada is just as family friendly in the winter as it is in the summer. There is the Child Minding Centre that serves children over 18 months of age. The centre offers daycare and ski school.

Every week there are family events, like game nights and movie night. Tube Park is a great place for family fun. This park offers ice skating and sleigh rides. The Sports Centre features a year round outdoor pool with a kiddie pool and hot tub that are all accessible during the winter months.

As you can see, no matter when you visit Sun Peaks Resort, you are in for a great time. Whether you are going alone or with your whole family, there is always something going on to keep you busy.

I think Sun Peaks Canada is one of Kamloops’ best kept secrets that not enough locals think to take advantage of unless they’re headed skiing in the winter. People come from all over the world for the great facilities, beautiful countryside, and great skiing and golfing and it’s right in our backyard!
