View over Manukau Harbour
A small country in the Pacific Ocean makes up the travel destination New Zealand. Two islands stretching long from north to south on the southern hemisphere are simply called North Island and South Island. A small population set together of indigenous Maori people and migrants coming from many parts of the world forming now one nation call these islands home.
Water is never far therefore beaches make up a fair bit of New Zealand?s charm. We fell in love with those to Auckland?s west. Beach vacations show off vast black iron sand beaches interchanging with a rugged coastline. They bear the promise to excitement and activity, calm and family friendly environment, or idyll and remoteness.
Bursting with energy is the surf around Piha, Bethells, and Muriwai ideal for surfing and body boarding. Around the Manukau Harbour family friendly beaches are nestled that invite to picnics, swimming, boating, fishing and more. The more secluded ones are only accessible after long and winding gravel road rides. The reward of all efforts is a stunningly beautiful, wild, and unspoiled coastline.
The bordering Waitakere Ranges are crisscrossed with well maintained tracks ideal for hikes. Everyone finds a suitable track from easy to moderate and highly demanding ones. They follow the coast to open up in amazing views, or through the bush and ancient forest keeping many scenic surprises. Among those are the kauri trees the New Zealand forest giants and tree ferns, while the song of tui birds accompanies every step.
