La Jolla Shores Beach in San Diego California
With so many great beaches in San Diego, California, it is hard to limit it to one favorite beach, so I?ll tell you about three of my favorite San Diego beaches.
La Jolla Shores beach, in beautiful La Jolla, features lovely sand, spectacular scenery, and the clearest water in San Diego due to the kelp forest in the La Jolla Underwater Park & Ecological Reserve. One of our best adventures was kayaking across La Jolla Bay to the La Jolla Sea Caves, spectacular caves in the bluffs along La Jolla's coast.
Just three miles north of La Jolla Shores beach is Blacks Beach, the most famous nude beach in California. The Torrey Pines bluffs tower 300 feet above the secluded stretch of beach, with world-class surfers on the south end, and hang gliders and paragliders flying overhead. We love to walking along the beach at low tide, and exploring the excellent tidepools located about a mile north of La Jolla Shores.
In North County, about 15 miles north of San Diego, is the charming beach town of Encinitas. On a good day, the entire coast is lined with surfers, as there are so many great surfing spots here, like Swamis, made famous by the Beach Boys Surfin USA
hit song. At Pipes beach, you can see the businessmen attend their morning board meetings, but in the afternoon the younger crowd owns these surfing spots. This is also a popular area for walking along the beach, or exploring the old Encinitas surfing town.
OneGirl note: I LOVE San Diego! With it's casual laid back vibe, adventure parks and beaches it's got a little something for everyone.
The San Diego Beaches and Adventure guide also has a link to purchase a San Diego Entertainment Book - I haven't used the San Diego one, but the coupon books have certainly come in handy at other locations!
