Favorite Kamloops Beaches
Of all the Kamloops beaches, what’s the perfect one for you? You mean you came to the desert to go to the beach – lol!
We do in fact have some great sandy beaches along the Thompson Rivers. There are three main beaches right in Kamloops:
• Riverside Park – downtown,
• Pioneer Park – downtown, and
• Under the Overlander (Blue) Bridge – North Shore
The perfect beach for you will depend on your situation as they all have their own virtues. Let me help you choose ...
Riverside Park Beach
Riverside Park is a large city park with a number of amenities not offered at the other beaches including:
• washroom facilities,
• concession stand (varying hours),
• beach with a life guard,
• a number of picnic tables and benches,
• kids water park,
• tennis courts,
• two playgrounds,
• large trees for shade,
• open grass areas,
• a pier,
• and is within easy walking distance to an ice cream shop
(Scoopz) and a number of restaurants - yummy!
This is a great family beach and this is where I’d recommend if you’re traveling with your family and have no dogs.
Riverside Park is beautiful and I love to have a picnic there and then walk up to Scoopz to grab an ice cream.
Pioneer Park Beach
Pioneer Park has fewer amenities but still has the following:
• washroom facilities,
• benches,
• boat launch,
• large trees for shade, and
• within a longer walking distance to the downtown core
This beach is normally used by the 15-25 crowd and those with dogs.
It’s a pretty little spot with free parking almost always available.
Overlander Bridge Beach
Overlander Beach has no facilities and isn’t a City owned park but locals use it often as it’s less crowded and allows dogs.
It’s quite a beautiful Kamloops beach since you can look right up the South Thompson River from here and see the train bridge and the red bridge.
